Capital of Tech

Following the trends and developments within Stockholm’s world-renowned tech scene

The Stockholm Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to positioning the Stockholm region as Europe’s leading capital. A central element of this vision is to establish Stockholm as a premier hub for technology – a place where innovation and cutting-edge business can thrive. Through our initiative Capital of Tech, we examine the current landscape of Stockholm’s tech sector and its future trajectory.

Since the launch in 2023, we have brought together stakeholders from across society to explore key themes, including AI readiness, Stockholm’s gaming industry, seed investments, Nordic collaboration, and more.

In 2024, we published a comprehensive report analysing the state of Stockholm’s tech ecosystem, benchmarking it against other major global tech hubs. The report identifies both the region’s strengths and the opportunities for further growth.

Why Capital of Tech?

Stockholm is already known as a unicorn factory – so why do we need ‘Capital of Tech’?
“Stockholm has an exceptional tech scene and has produced some of the world’s leading unicorns. However, the global tech industry is constantly evolving, and we must continue to adapt. The ambition and determination from like-minded cities around the world to drive innovation, attract capital, and develop their respective tech scenes, mean that we must ensure Stockholm remains at the forefront,” says Peter Sandberg, the initiator of Capital of Tech.

How has it been received so far?
“Since launching in 2023, we have hosted seminars, dinners, and roundtable discussions on everything from the explosion of AI to SaaS developments – all of which have been met with great interest. Our community, both longstanding and new, has praised Capital of Tech as a valuable platform for learning, engaging discussions, and an opportunity to meet peers, investors, and the broader business community in an informal setting.”

What areas will you be covering in upcoming events?
“We will continue to take the pulse of the tech scene, examining how it is responding to the current financial and geopolitical climate, and what challenges lie ahead. Our ambition is to explore broader business issues as well as areas where the tech community can be part of the solution. In line with this, we will delve into topics such as defence and security, Nordic competitiveness, artificial intelligence, and much more,” Peter adds.
