Air Chief Marshal The Lord Peach

Lord Peach was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the Western Balkans in 2021. 

Previously, he served as Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, the Alliance’s highest military authority, making him the UK’s most senior military officer. Commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1974, he specialised in nuclear, weapons, and electronic warfare. His distinguished career includes key intelligence roles in the UK Ministry of Defence, command positions in NATO operations, and leadership of UK Joint Forces Command. 

He holds degrees from the University of Sheffield and the University of Cambridge, alongside four honorary doctorates. A Fellow of the Royal College of Defence Studies and an Honorary Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and appointed a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter in 2024. Lord Peach joined the House of Lords as a Crossbench Peer in 2022.
