Sunita Narain

Sunita Narain is a Delhi-based environmentalist and author. She is currently the Director General of the Center for Science and Environment and Editor of the biweekly magazine, Down To Earth

Narain plays an active role in policy formulation on issues of environment and development in India and globally.  She has co-authored influential publications on the environment and directed campaigns on climate change, air pollution control, community water management and food and toxins, among others. 

Narain was a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change and has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. In 2005, she also received the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize for her work on rainwater harvesting and community-based water management. In 2016, she was featured in TIME magazine’s list of 100 Most Influential People in the world.
