Lord Ed Vaizey

Lord Ed Vaizey is a Member of the House of Lords, as well as a business adviser, broadcaster and speaker.

He served as Member of Parliament for Wantage from 2005 to 2019 and was the UK Government’s Minister for Culture and the Digital Economy from 2010 to 2016, making him the longest-serving minister in that role. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 2016.

During his time as digital minister, Lord Vaizey was responsible for the rollout of the rural broadband programme to more than four million homes, the introduction of 4G, and the introduction of tax credits for film, television, animation and video games. These measures helped establish the UK’s creative industries as one of the fastest-growing parts of the economy. He also played a role in attracting major international film productions to the UK, including the Star Wars franchise.

Alongside his work in the House of Lords, Lord Vaizey advises a number of companies on strategic issues. He is a well-known broadcaster with a regular show on Times Radio and is a frequent contributor to the media. He is a trustee of Tate, Chair of the UK–ASEAN Business Council, an honorary fellow of the Radio Academy, and a visiting professor at Newcastle University.
